2012 Blitz Duathlon Race Details

Be a part of Calgary's longest running annual duathlon - either Saturday or Sunday! Due to growing popularity, we've expanded the duathlon race to two days. The race on Saturday and Sunday will be the exact same course, each with only 150 competitors. Our awesome volunteers make the day fun by ensuring you stay on course, cheering you on and serving you lunch after the race. Athletes will enjoy the precise organization and execution of a Blitz event all with a laid back atmosphere.
When: September 15 & 16, 2012
What: 8km trail run, 18.5km road bike, 4km trail run
Where: Bragg Creek, AB (west of Calgary)
The race will start from the Station Flats parking area and take you west along the Elbow Valley/Sulphur Springs trail before looping back to the transition area at Station Flats. The 18.5km bike will be an out and back south/west on Hwy 66 with lots of rolling hills, followed by a shorter run route to finish the race. Course map will be posted in May.

| Race Day Check-in | 8:00am - 9:30am All athletes must check in the day of the race. |

| Timing Chips | Timing chips will be handed during check in the morning of the race. Partners will receive one timing chip and bib. The athlete completing the run will wear the timing chip. The chip DOES NOT need to be passed to the cyclist. | |

| Directions: | From Calgary head to Bragg Creek. Once you enter Bragg Creek, you will come to a 4-way stop. Turn left and follow this until you come to a T intersection. Turn right onto Hwy 66. Look for Blitz Events signs starting at Bragg Creek for directional assistance. | |
| Awards/Prizes: | We are known for great prizes, stick around so you don’t miss out! There will be prizes for the top finishers and lots of door prizes. Top finisher prizes will be presented at 12:00pm. All prizes will be awarded near the food tent by the start/finish line. All athletes will be given three 50/50 tickets at check-in and can enter into draw prize(s) of his or her choice before the race starts. Extra 50/50 tickets can be purchased for $1. Draw prizes will be drawn during the race and a winners list posted near the prize table. Unclaimed draw prizes will be re-drawn at 1:00pm. |

Stick around for a BBQ lunch with lots of yummy food. Your race bib will be required to get your food. Spectators, including children can purchase a $5 food ticket the day of the race. | |
| Washrooms: | Outhouses available. | |
| Parking: | There are 70 spots available for parking at Station Flats for athletes, so come early if you wish to park here. Once these spots are full, you will be directed to River Cove Group Campsite (located 0.5km east on Hwy 66) and will have to walk/bike back to the start/finish area at Station Flats. Bag/gear check will be available near the athlete check in table. No shuttle service will be provided. * All spectators will be required to park at River Cove. Please let your fans know they will have to walk to Station Flats. |

| First Aid: | There will be a First Aid tent at the finish line and all course marshals are first aid certified and will be able to assist you. A first aid vehicle will travel the road for assistance during the cycle portion. | |
| Spectators: | Spectators are welcome and encouraged to cheer on friends and family members while enjoying a beautiful fall day in Kananaskis. Spectators are able to purchase tickets for the post race meal for $5 on the day of the event. We ask that spectators do not follow the participants on the highway in order to avoid excessive traffic. |

| Bike Support: | A big thank you to our sponsor SpeedTheory who will be providing bike support before/during the race. A tent will be sent up before the race for minor bike maintenance. During the race, there will be one vehicle equipped with basic bike maintenance gear available for road side assistance. Bike racks will be available in the transition area for you. | |
