Frequently Asked Questions

Will I get my timing chip at package pick-up?
No, to ensure timing chips are not lost or forgotten, they will be handed out the morning of the race and collected immediately after you cross the finish line.

Will Hwy 66 be open to the public during the race?
Yes, Hwy 66 will be open to the public as the government will not allow us to close the road. There will be course marshals and numerous signs on the road to inform all drivers that cyclists are on the road.

What is the condition of Hwy 66?
We have requested the highway be cleaned for the race, however Alberta Transportation is unable to do so. We will do our best to sweep areas with lots of gravel and have signs reminding you to slow down prior to the turn around. You are responsible for your own safety, so please use caution while riding.

How does it work for transition between run to bike & bike to run. Do you get timed during transition or does clock stop at end of run, restart for bike, etc?
You will receive a time for your first run, bike, and overall finish time. At the end of the race, we will post all three times and from that you can determine how long each transition took you.

Do athletes in partner teams need to pass the timing chip?
No. The athlete completing the running portions of the race will have the timing chip and keep it for the entire race. You do not need to pass the chip to the cyclist. The runner and cyclist will be required to tag off at the rack where the bike is located. The runner will then wait at the same location for the cyclist to return and can leave once the cyclist has reached this location. You will still receive a time for your first run, the bike and finishing time.

Can I use a road bike since the bike portion is on Hwy 66?
Yes, you can use a road bike. Hwy 66 is paved highway.

Will there be bike racks in the transition area? Can I leave a bag with clothing/shoe change with my bike?
Yes there are bike racks at the transition stage. Because it is a run, bike, run you should not need a change of clothes and therefore only shoes and helmet will be allowed by your bike. All other belonging (bags, change of clothes) can be kept at the bag check area.

How does the bag/gear check work?
Gear check is available on race day at the start/finish line from 8am-2pm. You can check your bags, jackets, draw prize tickets, etc. so you do not have to worry about leaving everything in your car and not being able to get a change of clothes for after the race. Please note that any items not picked up by 2pm on race day will be donated to charity.

Are there changing rooms if we need to change clothes between each leg?
The transition area will be in the parking lot area of Allen Bill pond, so no, there are no changing rooms. Most athletes just change their shoes and maybe their top so a private changing area isn't necessary. There are outhouses nearby if athletes need to do a complete change of clothing.

What are the prizes?
The prizes are generously donated from our sponsors and purchased by Blitz Events. We will have prizes for the top three females and males as well as a top finisher prize in each age category. In addition, we give each athlete three 50/50 tickets at check-in for you to enter into your choice of door prize(s). Extra 50/50 tickets can be purchased for $1. Door prizes will be drawn during the race so make sure you get your tickets entered. Check the winners list at the prize table after the race. All unclaimed door prizes will be re-drawn at 1pm.
