Snowshoe Race Details

If you can walk, you can snowshoe! Snowshoeing is such an accessible, affordable activity and it provides a great way to get active and experience Alberta’s winter landscapes. This combined with health benefits such as stress relief and improved cardiovascular health make snowshoeing one of the fastest growing winter sports. And if the health benefits of snowshoeing don’t make you want to sign up for this fun run, then how about make it an event to share with friends and family and come in your best team costumes with the chance to win a prize.

Snowshoeing is a great way to improve your health and incorporate a fun activity into your exercise and fitness regime. Whether you are training for a marathon, triathlon, or general fitness we all know how boring and tedious indoor training can be during the long winter months in Alberta. Well now you can experience cardiovascular and strength benefits while outdoors all year round. Why not add a challenge and goal to your training during the winter and participant in the Blitz annual snowshoe race. So whether you snowshoe for fun and general fitness or are a serious athlete the Blitz snowshoe race will be sure to provide a challenging and fun terrain to keep you motivated and active during the winter season.

Volunteers are there to make sure that everyone stays on the course, uphold the organization of the event and ensure that everyone has a great time. Participants will also enjoy the precise organization and execution of a Blitz event and a laid back atmosphere.

Directions
Mt. Norquay is the closest ski resort to the townsites of Banff and Canmore. It is located off the second exit to Banff coming from Calgary heading west on the TransCanada highway.

Check-in:
7.30am - 9.30am. 2nd floor, Cascade Lodge

Terrain:
Cat track, single track, powder sections, hiking trails and some hills.

Washrooms:
Located inside Cascade Lodge

Post Race:
All participants will receive a $5 gift voucher to use at Kika’s Café following the race. Complimentary coffee, hot chocolate and water will be provided.

Results:
Results will be posted online following the event. Top finishers of each category will be announced at the post race awards.

Prizes:
Thanks to our sponsors we'll have great door prizes. All participants/volunteers will be given three tickets with their bib number on each ticket and can enter into the prize(s) of his or her choice. Tickets will be drawn throughout the day. You must be present to receive your prize. Prizes will be displayed near registration the morning of the race.

Package pickup:
Package pickup and participant check in will happen the day of the race at Mt. Norquay Ski Lodge from 7:30am to 9:30am. Follow the Blitz Snowshoe signs once in the lodge. All participants, including all team members, must check in the day of the race.

Snowshoes:
Want to participate but don’t have snowshoes? There are many places in Calgary and Kananaskis that rent snowshoes for $5-$20 a day. Some suggestions include: the University of Calgary, goski.ca, Mountain Equipment Coop, Kananaskis outfitters. All participants are responsible for brining his/her own gear to complete the fun run.


More Information:

Spectators: Spectators are welcome and encouraged to come and cheer on participants. The best place for spectators is at the start/finish line.
     
First Aid: First aid will be available prior to the event starting and throughout the course. All volunteers on the course are first aid certified and/or will have communication with a first aider.

 

Participants will have full access to all the amenities at Mt. Norquay Ski Lodge.
