Snowshoe Race Details

If you can walk, you can snowshoe! Whether you are training for a marathon, triathlon, or general fitness we all know how boring and tedious indoor training can be during the long winter months in Alberta. And if the health benefits of snowshoeing don’t make you want to sign up for this fun run, then make it a fun event to share with friends and family. Volunteers are there to make sure that everyone stays on the course and ensure that everyone has a great time. Athletes will also enjoy the precise organization and execution of a Blitz event and a laid back atmosphere.

Package Pick-up:
Package pickup and athlete check in will happen the day of the race at Kika's Cafe in Mt. Norquay Cascade Lodge from 9:00am to 10:00am. Follow the Blitz Snowshoe signs once in the lodge. All athletes must check in the day of the race.

Race Day Check-in:
9:00am - 10:00am, Kika's Cafe, 2nd floor Cascade Lodge.

Distance:
5km or 10km

Terrain:
Single track, double track, powder sections, hiking trails and some rolling hills.

Directions
Norquay is Calgary’s closest Banff resort. At 112 km (69 miles) from the Calgary City limits, Norquay is a short 1hour drive on the Trans Canada Highway. Head west on Highway 1, then take the second Banff exit, turn right on Mt Norquay Rd.

Awards/Prizes
Since this is a fun run there are no prizes for the top finishers but there will be lots of door prizes! All athletes will be given three 50/50 tickets at check-in and can enter into the door prize(s) of his or her choice. Extra 50/50 tickets can be purchased for an additional $1/each. All prizes will be displayed in the lodge prior to the race. Winning tickets will be drawn at 11am and posted to claim during post-race activities. Prizes not claimed by 12:30pm will be redrawn.

Located inside lodge.

Results:
Results will be posted online following the event. Top finishers of each category will be announced at the post race awards.

Snowshoes:
Want to participate but don’t have snowshoes? There are many places in Calgary and Kananaskis that rent snowshoes for $5-$20 a day. Some options include: Calgary Outdoor Centre, goski.ca, Mountain Equipment Coop, or Kananaskis outfitters. All participants are responsible for bringing his/her own gear to complete the fun run.

Children 16 years and under stay free when sharing with an adult. Above rates are a per night rate and based on 2 adults in a room. Extra adults are $20 per person per night. Rates do not include applicable taxes. Rooms are based on availability.

     
Spectators: Spectators are welcome and encouraged to come and cheer on participants. The best place for spectators is at the start/finish line.
     
First Aid: First aid will be available prior to the event starting and throughout the course. All volunteers on the course are first aid certified and/or will have communication with a first aider.

 

Participants will have full access to all the amenities at Mt. Norquay Ski Lodge.
